The weather was great for the Babylon YC Louis Orr Cup Race on Sunday Oct 6th. Nine boats competed in 10 kt SE winds and RC Andrew Hemingway picked Course 6 for the upwind start.
With the pin favored, most of the fleet went south at the start. First through the bridge was Vantage followed by Unleashed. It was a nice reach to the Bayshore #1 mark, and the run back to the bridge was a joy as the southerly filled in. But the wind seemed to lighten at the finish at the Babylon YC dock and keeping boat speed up was a challenge.
The J22 Vantage was first to finish followed by Shadow and the C&C 25 Unleashed. There was some close friendly competition between Naughty Dog & Tangled up in Blue and between Pandemonium & Kickin Back. At the finish, Naughty Dog was only 12 seconds in front of Tangled Up and Kickin Back beat Pandemonium to the finish by only 2 seconds! Now that's what I'm talking about!
The Final Louis Orr Cup Adjusted Results:
1st place: Vantage- Hyer
2nd place: Shadow- Margeson
3rd place: Unleashed- Sicignano
4th: Whitecap- Holst
5th: Pandemonium- Sebouhian
6th: Tangled Up In Blue- Breuer
7th: Naughty Dog- Reichel (Will)
8th: Kickin Back- O'Connell
9th: Mo'Sun- Feldman
The awards Party in the BYC clubhouse that afternoon was well attended with delicious pizza & drinks and a great view of the bay. BYC Regatta Chair Andrew Hemingway presented the awards and was a perfect host for all. Andrew noted that they had 2 families racing this year with 3 generations onboard: the Hyers and John Davis & the Reichels- very impressive. I'm also proud to say that the SBCC made a very good showing this year for the Babylon YC's Louis Orr Race. Five boats were SBCC boats and 2 more were BYC/SBCC boats. It's always a fun time when the BYC and SBCC members get together!
