Another great fall like evening with temperatures in the 60's. Is it really July? The wind speed was steady at 6-8 knots but I can't say the same about the direction. The 10-15 degree shifts rewarded those who were paying attention to them.
Welcome Dan Kelley and crew sailing Redhead, a Seafarer 34. Redhead was built by Dan's father from a kit. Seafarer Yachts was located in Huntington in the 70's and offered their boats as either complete boats or kits. Next time you see Dan ask him about the history of Redhead's construction. It's an interesting story. We hope you enjoyed your first Tuesday night race.
What a beautiful sight seeing 15 boats out racing tonight. While looking at the fleet heading toward the third mark, the setting sun made the sails of every boat in the fleet look iridescent. I hope someone managed to take a photo of that. It would be nice to share some photos of the races. Harry Manko and Eric Winberry are already posting photos and videos at the SBCC Group on Facebook and on Instagram. (southbaycruisingclub) Check them out when you get a chance.
Thanks to everyone who was out there racing tonight. You've made this venue so much fun. Our original goal was to get 15 boats out racing and we achieved that tonight. We're optimistically setting the boom a little higher. We'd love to see 18 boats out there racing and quite honestly, that's a very real possibility. See all 15 of you out there next Tuesday.
