Another beautiful evening on the bay in Bay Shore with 14 boats overall. A good south wind allowed us to run course #5 for a second week in a row. This week, instead of a north wind and a downwind start, we had a south wind and an upwind start. This is exactly why course #5 was created.
Dark Star with Rick LaTorre joined us for the very first time, sailed a great race and lead everyone to the finish line. We hope you enjoyed sailing in the BSIR and we look forward to you sailing regularly.
Thanks to Merry Ann - Cook/Burns serving as committee boat for this race. Being one of the faster boats in our fleet allowed them to be committee boat and also complete the race. Double duty.
Several boats were missing for this race for various reason. Fancy Nancy once again had engine trouble prior to the race and had to bail out. Not a total loss though, he crewed on Integrity. Get that engine repaired once and for all.
Noddy -Jim Papa has claimed that Indigo - O'Donnell didn't give Noddy room at a mark and he should have. Haven't heard the other side of the story. Maybe before next week's race, we can have Jim and David meet at Long Island Yacht Sales and we can resolve this issue with water pistols at 10 paces. Seriously, lets all know the rules.
Jim Gathard has reminded us that next week there will be a fireworks display on Tuesday evening, July 3rd, off the mouth of Nicholl Bay at 9:15 PM. This is after our Tuesday race and you may want to sail east after the race to catch the fireworks. If enough people want to do that we can make it a shorter race to give everyone time to sail east to see it.
We would be amiss if we didn't mention the BBQ after the race. Barbara Burns always has a surprise for us. Tuesday it was baby shrimp, peppers and pineapple. Yummy. The Gathards surprised us with jello shots.
