What great conditions we had for our second Babylon Twilight race! It was "big boat" weather with a very steady 18-20 kt SW wind with gusts to 25 kts. Eddie Anderson/At Last did RC, and set a great line for the start. Three boats came out to race course #2 (3.9 nm long). In this wind it was all about the sail handling. The BIG question of the evening- to reef or not to reef? On Shadow with a 19 ft boom we had no choice and put one reef in the main and shortened the Jib to 110%. It proved a good decision for us as we were able to control her well, especially in the gusts. The last leg of the race was very exciting with Rettsie & Shadow battling it out from the bridge to the finish. There's nothing better than a big boat close race!
We all finished in time to watch the sun go down on the way home.
Our thanks to Eddie & Farley in At Last for their RC duties last night.
We have one more race next Thursday to complete the first series of the Babylon Twilight, with Kevin Padden/Rettsie doing RC duties.
